How to Measure Your Bra Size at Home

Accurate bra sizing starts with two measurements: your underbust (the circumference directly under your bust, around your ribcage) and your bust (the circumference at the fullest point of your bust). Use a soft fabric tape measure. Stand upright, breathe normally, and keep the tape parallel to the floor. Take multiple readings and average them for accuracy.

Understanding Band Size and Cup Size

Your bra band size is derived from the underbust measurement, rounded up to the nearest even number. The cup size is determined by the difference between your bust and band measurement: 0 inches = AA, 1 inch = A, 2 inches = B, 3 inches = C, 4 inches = D, 5 inches = DD, and so on. The same cup volume will look proportionally different depending on band size.

International Bra Size Conversion

Bra sizes vary significantly by country. A US 34C is equivalent to UK 34C, EU 75C, French 90C, Italian 3C, and Australian 12C. Most European sizes use a different numbering system where the band number represents the band circumference in centimetres, and cup letters may differ from US/UK conventions. Always check the specific brand's fit guide when purchasing internationally.

Signs Your Bra Doesn't Fit Correctly

A poorly fitting bra can cause discomfort, back pain, and poor posture. Signs of a wrong size include: straps that dig into shoulders or slip off constantly, the centre gore (bridge) not lying flat against your sternum, cups that overflow or wrinkle (gaping), underwire sitting on breast tissue, and band riding up the back. If the band rides up, try a smaller band size. If cups overflow, try a larger cup.
